Under the BJA amendments to the IJF Contest Rules, technical restrictions must apply to:
- school years 4, 5, 6 and 7, any grade (in Scotland: P5, P6, P7 and S1)
- all under-12 categories, any grade
- under-16 categories limited to yellow belt and under
The no-golden-score end-of-contest rule also applies to under-16 categories limited to orange belt and under.
Technical restrictions don't apply outside these categories. However, some restrictions apply to all Pre-Cadets, Cadets and under-18s, and strangles and armlocks are banned in all under-16 categories.
The BJA amendments and the IJF Contest Rules together are the contest rules for all BJA-licensed events. No other rule sets are authorised.
