The Mon grade scheme is British Judo's grading system for juniors aged about 8 to 17. It has 18 grades, shown by a belt colour plus tags:
| Grades | Belt | Tags |
|---|---|---|
| 1st–3rd Mon | Red | 1–3 yellow tags |
| 4th–6th Mon | Yellow | 1–3 red tags |
| 7th–9th Mon | Orange | 1–3 red tags |
| 10th–12th Mon | Green | 1–3 red tags |
| 13th–15th Mon | Blue | 1–3 red tags |
| 16th–18th Mon | Brown | 1–3 red tags |
Promotion is based on technical knowledge and understanding, Japanese terminology (candidates need the English names and meanings for their grade) and supplementary knowledge. There's no contest requirement, but the higher grades include structured randori. The syllabus is almost identical to the Kyu syllabus, so juniors can transfer easily.
