Alpine Canada's LTAD 3.0 places U14 and U16 racers in the Train to Train stage (boys 12 to 16, girls 11 to 15). Recommendations:
- Days on snow: at least 80 per year, plus off-season camps of 10 to 30 days (1 to 3 camps recommended). Weekly volume is at least three days, plus two more when possible.
- Training before the first competition: U14 racers 15 to 30 days on snow; U16 racers 30 or more days. Each competition start also needs at least two training days.
- Starts per season: U14 12 to 20; U16 16 to 24.
- Split: about 40% of time racing and 60% training on snow. "Too much competition can waste valuable training time, but too little competition can slow the learning."
- Free skiing: 40 to 50% of on-snow time structured or unstructured free skiing.
- Formats: simulation races and time trials, sprint events with multiple runs a day, GS and slalom, panel slalom and dual team events, ski cross and super-G, plus low-pressure fun or skills races.
- Speed: gliding, tucking and jumping on super-G and downhill skis; speed and ski cross camps are recommended.
Note: the parent guide for this stage says U16 racers should complete up to 30 days of on-snow training before December 1.
