Every 12 months. ECB policy is to recheck everyone annually, and clearance for more than 12 months at a time is not granted.
- If the person is registered with the DBS Update Service, the recheck is done online; they get an email each year asking them to log in, consent and confirm their details (role, club, paid or volunteer). If their details don't change, they may never need a new application.
- If they are not on the Update Service, they must make a new application after 12 months.
Cost
| Application | Update Service | |
|---|---|---|
| Volunteers | Free | Free |
| Paid roles | £49.50 (payable to the DBS) | £16 a year |
Other rules
- It must be an ECB DBS: a DBS from another organisation is not accepted.
- Applications are online; the Club Safeguarding Officer initiates them (the County Safeguarding Officer can help; umpires may go through their panel administrator).
- Anyone who has lived outside the UK for 3 months or more in the last 5 years also needs an overseas certificate of good conduct; if one can't be obtained, references are assessed instead. Applicants living overseas complete the ECB's Non-UK Resident Vetting Form.
