- Captains
Under the CGL 2025/26 playing conditions:
- Nominate your 11 players in writing to either umpire before the toss. Writing the names on the result card counts. After that, no player may be changed without the opposing captain's consent.
- Declare your juniors: tell the umpires and the opposing captain the age group of every player who is U19 or younger, including any junior who may field as a substitute.
- Toss on time: toss on the field under at least one umpire's supervision, no earlier than 30 minutes and no later than 15 minutes before the scheduled start. At least 9 of your nominated players must be present.
- Announce your decision: the toss winner tells the opposing captain and the umpires straight away whether they'll bat or field. It can't be changed.
- Agree the boundary: before the toss, the umpires agree the boundary with both captains.
If you're not there: a deputy acts for you. Before the team is nominated, the deputy can be anyone associated with the team (coach, manager or a member of the club's executive). After nomination, only a nominated player can deputise, including at the toss.
Ball supply: each team must supply 6 used balls of the approved brand and weight for the league, as spare match balls.
