Can I wear headphones or use my phone or watch during the race?

Headphones: no. No headphones or headsets of any kind, in any segment, including bone-conduction headphones and earbuds in or over the ears. Smart helmets are banned on the bike. Ear-protection plugs are allowed in the swim (sections 2.4.6 and 3.3).

Phones and watches: yes, but not in a distracting way. You may carry and use a phone, smartwatch or other device for navigation, tracking or data recording. You may not make or take calls, text, play music, use social media, take photos or use radios during the race.

Also banned throughout: glass containers, and hazardous items such as a hard cast or jewelry.

Penalty: warning and amend if possible; DSQ if not corrected.
