Under the World Triathlon Competition Rules (section 5.6), in a draft-illegal event a technical official who sees you draft will tell you clearly and unambiguously that you are subject to a time penalty.
- You must stop in the next penalty box and stay for the time set for the race distance: 3 minutes (long), 2 minutes (middle), 1 minute (standard) or 30 seconds (sprint and shorter).
- It is your responsibility to stop in the next penalty box. Failing to stop results in disqualification.
- A second drafting offence leads to disqualification in standard distance events or shorter.
- A third drafting offence leads to disqualification in middle and long distance events.
- Drafting violations cannot be protested.
