Do I need a race licence or membership?

Triathlon Canada says you become a member of the Triathlon Canada Nation as soon as you sign up with your provincial sport organization (PSO). Membership gives access to benefits such as race insurance and partner discounts, and clubs and races must be sanctioned by a PSO to meet safety and insurance requirements.

The International Competition Card (ICC) is a different thing: Triathlon Canada says elite athletes racing at international World Triathlon events must hold a current ICC, and that an ICC does not guarantee placement on an elite start list.

Provincial detail differs. For example, Triathlon BC says its sanctioned events must verify that all competitors are current annual Triathlon BC members, and it offers a single-day membership option for entrants.
