Paralympics Australia's classification FAQs say:
- You must report changes in your condition or treatment to your sporting organisation, which decides whether reclassification is needed. Failing to disclose changes may breach sport rules.
- Permanent impairments such as limb deficiency or short stature do not change with training. Other impairments may change due to maturation, experience, treatment or recent onset, but not usually because of training. Mature, experienced athletes rarely change class.
- Changes to equipment or to competition rules may require reclassification. Equipment should be discussed with sport staff, and changes reported to the relevant international federation.
- Classification rules can change based on research, feedback or IPC compliance requirements, and affected athletes may need reclassification.
