All athletes at the North American Indigenous Games must be of Canadian and/or American Indigenous ancestry. Every participant must provide proof of ancestry, and your team's own eligibility and selection policy must also be followed.
Accepted proof:
- Canada: a Status Card, Inuit or Inuvialuit identification, or a Métis Card from one of the provincial bodies recognized by the Métis National Council (Métis Nation of Ontario, Manitoba Métis Federation, Métis Nation - Saskatchewan, Métis Nation of Alberta, Métis Nation British Columbia).
- United States: a Tribal Identification Card or Certificate of Indian Blood.
You must also be registered with a contingent (a province, territory or state team), live in that contingent's area (180 days before the Opening Ceremony), be an amateur, and fit an age category for your sport.
These answers come from the 2023 NAIG Governing Rules (approved February 3, 2022), the newest edition on the NAIG Council website.
