Amateur status: every athlete must be an amateur in the sport they enter. Each sport follows its own National Sport Organization's or National Sport Governing Body's definition of an amateur athlete.
Gender inclusion: the NAIG is an inclusive organization and the NAIG Council operates in a way that welcomes people of all genders. Individuals may take part in NAIG sports, disciplines and events in the gender with which they identify, and are not required to disclose any more personal information than cisgender athletes. The policy is based on guidelines published by the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport, and the NAIG Council and Host Societies will try to accommodate individual participants' needs for care and comfort.
