From Nordiq Canada's Para-Nordic Race Event Guidelines (2019 edition), which follow the IPC Nordic Skiing rules:
- Sit-skiers sit on a sit ski or sled fixed to two skis and propel themselves by double poling.
- At the start, the competitor's bindings and chest must be behind the start line.
- If you crash off course, coaches or officials may help you back onto the course, but you must re-enter the race at the same place. If you have fallen, you need to ask for assistance before an official can help you up.
- If you stop going uphill and start sliding backwards, an official may stand behind you and stop the backslide with a leg, but you must continue on your own propulsion. The official is not allowed to push you.
- You may not use one or both legs to steer or brake the sledge during competition.
- For a ski exchange, you must do it outside the track (or designated exchange box), and a team official may support you.
Courses for sit-skiers should include uphills and downhills, with uphills in general not steeper than 10 to 12 per cent and not over 200 m in length, and downhills not steeper than 12 to 14 per cent. The minimum radius of a turn in a flat or downhill section is 15 m.
