Nordiq Canada's Para Nordic Classification Policy (2024) allows national-level classification outside the IPC Classification Code and FIS rules, so athletes can compete in nationally sanctioned events including Provincial Cups, Canada Cups, Nordiq Cups, Nordiq Canada Ski Nationals and Canada Winter Games. Eligibility is decided case by case by the Canadian classifiers in consultation with Nordiq Canada staff. The current adaptations are:
- Sitting athletes (LW10-12) with a clear physical impairment who cannot compete standing but are not classifiable under FIS rules: classified LW13 with a competition factor of 100 per cent.
- Standing athletes (LW2-9) with a clear physical impairment who are not classifiable under FIS rules: classified in the appropriate sport class, with competition percentages adjusted to suit.
- Visually impaired athletes (B1-B3) with a clear visual impairment who are not classifiable under FIS rules: classified B4 with a competition factor of 100 per cent.
- Sitting athletes with cerebral palsy who are not classifiable under FIS rules: classified LW12 with a competition factor of 94 per cent, to be reviewed over time.
Athletes who cannot be FIS classified are not eligible for Nordiq Canada Para nordic National Ski Team selection or Sport Canada Athlete Assistance Program funding.
