What medical evidence do I need for classification?
Rule- South Africa

- SASAPD
- Para sport
- Classification
- All ages
- 2025
- Athletes
Nationally: SASAPD says athletes must provide medical evidence and undergo functional testing as part of classification.
Internationally (IPC Classification Code 2025, Articles 11-12):
- To start classification you give your national federation all relevant diagnostic information showing your underlying health condition and eligible impairment.
- Your national federation sends it to the international federation and is responsible for making sure it is complete, accurate, authentic and relevant.
- Documents must be in their original format (the original or a copy), with an English translation if they are in another language, unless the international federation says otherwise.
- A UHC Assessor reviews only this paperwork to confirm you have (or have had) at least one medically or clinically diagnosed underlying health condition. If so, and you don't already hold a sport class in that sport, you are designated New (N) and scheduled for an evaluation session.
- The international federation can ask your national federation for any additional information it needs.
